Moog Tattoos....Finally got mine!

Post by electrical_engineer_gEEk » Thu Feb 14, 2008 8:30 pm

Hey friends,
I finally got my long awaited Moog tattoo....not just the word moog but rather a schematic of Bob Moog's famous Transistor Ladder Filter! Sweet!
I will take more pictures once it is healed but here are the swollen red snapshots.
Note that one of the Transistors has been replaced by the circular Moog Logo....i love it!

Thats a cool tattoo but you know as well as I do that noone outside of "the know" will know what thats about.

Shoudl have stuck with the Japanese Kanji that only the tattoo artist knows what is says. You know, the one that is supposed to mean hope but really means something like "Id rather own a Korg" and youd have no idea.

Jsut teasing!

Clever, but are you aware that the Minimoog filter circuit you tattoo'd has errors in the schematic?

(gEEk mutters colorful methaphors under his breath, calls tattoo artist)

Well, I'm pretty sure it's a patented circuit...
So I guess Moog now owns your A$$.

What are the errors?

MC- hahahaha....yeah, I was actually really worried about that the weeks leading up just because I figured the schematic I got off the net was probably a bit outdated and perhaps even incorrect.

Either way I got quite a few comments on it while at a cafe today....a really hot chick even came up to me and said she wanted to get a schematic of a Theremin on her forearm a couple years ago when she played one in a band.....i was so shocked I forgot to even introduce myself and get her number....she was gone in a blink of an eye.....oh well, maybe I will run into her again....or maybe she reads the Moog forums?.....nah! hahahaha

oh yeah, thanks for all the positive comments! you guys are great and probably the only ones who would appreciate this fully.
and yes...i think Moog does own me at this point...haha

As one guy said it on Matrixsynth (i think in an insulting way)....I am a Bob Moog fanboy....can't deny that....the guy was quite an inspiration to my life

You appear to have been inked for the parts values too.
Didn't go through with them?

You know, both MC and myself have high-res lasers.
We could have saved you a bunch of time.
Not sure about the pain. ;-)

Trust me when I say that Kevin's lasers will be less painful. Mine are designed to cut through metal.

I don't recall exactly what the errors are - I read it a while ago on Synth DIY.

Yeah, I was originally going to get it the full 11 by 8.5in size and have all the text (designators & value) added but the tattoo artist said it was too small to do (after scaling down the entire image). I do doubt that it is "impossible" I'm actually willing to say that most artists could do it....but I figured i would just see if I liked the symbols only and eventually I could get the text at a later time....and I guess I am pretty satisfied with how it came out the way it is....
Here is the original image if anyone else wants to get a matching tattoo....I basically just did some editing to the one you find on the internet (everywhere) to make it a little more compact.

I will give you guys a call about the next tattoo so you can try your lasers on real flesh....hahaha...ouch

I didn't see any errors myself, but hard to say.
I've documented a bunch of others on other Minimoog boards and the schematics.

Yeah MC, the lasers you work on will take his finger off while mine will go a lot slower once they hit bone.
Not sure either is less painful, but he wouldn't bleed either way. ;-)
