Sonuus Universal Guitar to MIDI Converter

I'm ordering one of these units & understand that I can plug my guitar into it & then into my LP. As long as you play cleanly, it should convert the notes into MIDI pitch values.

According to the documentation, its monophonic only which is perfect for the LP, it supports +/- 2 semitone pitch-bends, & note-on velocity information.

Since I play the guitar much better than keys, I'm hoping this will allow me to run explore some solos. In order to switch between patches I was thinking about picking up the Tech21 MIDI Mouse:

Since the Philip Rees MIDI Merge units have been discontinued & the MIDI Mouse & Sonuus G2M each have only one MIDI output, I found:

MIDI Solutions

Kenton MIDI Merge

Anyway, let me know what you guys think. The Sonuus G2M sounds pretty cool to me.

If it does work well, I'd buy one in a second. Given my experience with MIDI pickups and interfaces, I don't have high hopes for this, but maybe they've figured out a way to do it. Please report back!

The Sonuus arrived a couple days ago.
I've been running through all my patches on my Casio keyboard & Moog synthesizer.

Quite fun actually. I see this as a poor-man's Roland GR-20 without the need for a GK-3 pickup. I liked the the GR-20 very much & of course it tracks way better than the Sonuus unit. Nevertheless, single note runs played cleanly provides great possibilities running your guitar through almost any MIDI enabled sound module.

It sounds pretty damned good with its 2+ semitone pitch-bend support. I do recommend loosely tying a bandana across the 1st fret to increase the tracking accuracy. Live use is soley dependent on the ability to play very cleanly for accurate tracking. Studio use is a better bet.

No matter the monetary decline, you should always buy the right thing the 1st time. The Sonuus is monophonic but does a decent job. The Roland GR-20 & its GK-3 pickup is certainly a step ahead but the Sonuus unit is versatile & can drive anything with a MIDI input. So its limited but a great entry into MIDI conversion.

I'll give it a thumb-up.
