LP+Sherman Filter Bank

Post by darkartois » Mon May 11, 2009 4:57 am

I'm ready for more gear I think. The combination of both seem like the perfect combo. There's no where for me to try out the Sherman but from what I see it would make the LP's filth sewer filthy. Anyone here own both?

Hi

A friend of mine had a Sherman filterbank MK2...
It seemed very hard to control infact the only thing that seemed to sound good through it was drumloops if youre into techno style music...
If youre after a filter you might want to try the mutator...

I have a SFBII and a I like it. It can get pretty rude sounding but if keep the setting under control it can add some very interesting textures to the LP patches.

I have a Filterbank2 on loan to test it... the guy wasn't sure it was working properly and I'm not quite sure either!

Here's a little experiment with the LP

Ha, yeah, I guess it works all right, but it sure is an odd, unpredictable piece of gear!

might get flamed at, but i thought the layout was unintuitive and the results often unusable unless you were going for really extreme results. the biggest prob was trying to get the amp to open up at the right time, it was really picky about that. that said, it could do some amazing stuff in the more extreme audio end.

after a few months i sold it to get the future retro xs, which does alot of the same stuff, and mates VERY well w/ the little phatty.

He is definitely talking about the Sherman.... :).

These are still songs in progress, but here is the my SFB II providing a stuttering bass line being fed to it from one the Osc outs of the Future Retro XS.

https://dl-web.getdropbox.com/get/BitFl ... w=48e40177

It does a similar thing to the bass here with the Little Phatty FreqMod patch running in Arp Mode.

In both of the tracks above the SFB is being triggered externally by a Flame Clock Work Unit.

Here it provides just a little extra, weird, quaver and harshness to this Little Phatty Patch

Not to out of control I think.

CTRLSHT I would love to hear about how you get your LP and the FRXS working together.

Thanks. I need to make some songs where the the SFB is making wilder tones. I think LCD sound system used an SFB in this song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaYsczkWti0 you, it kind of drones you hear it first and it does weird stuff in the back ground throughout the song.

well for one you can use the LP as a controller for the XS, so i can easily switch between using the two for individual use with the ease of hitting the output on/off button of the LP.

as far as using the synths together though the best thing is just taking the LP's out and running it into the audio in the XS. Set the filter on HP in XS and you've got a 4 osc MS-20 clone (filters are diff of course but w/e it's a Frankenstein of sorts!) You can get plenty of crazy analog overdrive w/ the XS too, of course. :)
