kinda worried...

Post by ColorForm2113 » Wed Sep 24, 2008 3:42 am

so i was just doing some late night foogerin' and i went to change a patch cable (with a metal sleeve) and it started vibrating  at first i didnt believe it but i did it again and sure enough. it was like a low electric current was flowing into the cable.

now two side notes saturday we did an out side gig and it was humid and started getting dewy (Havent touched them since saturday) and second, i got electricuited today pretty good while changing a flourecent light bulb at work and have been getting zapped by most metal objects since then.

um yeah...so im afraid to such my gear now in fear of shorting something out. although i did play with my synths earlier (including a cz-5000 which has a metal case) with no vibrating going on... any help or advice would be greatly apreciated. i just hope no damage has come unto my foogers

And THAT, my friends, is why plastic sleeved patch cables should be preferred over metal ones...even if they aren't as durable. I dunno what to tell you, ColorForm. I would disconnect the cable, unscrew the sleeve, if possible, and check the insulation. Usually, it's a cardboard tube or similar thing. If dew was present, it may have rotted the tube and now you have a short. Other than that, I have no clue.

you need to discharge yourself, no pun intended...

touch something grounded that's safe.

Go play a theramin!
Vibration emanates from all things, even nothing. Using awareness to translate vibration into "music" is something that I am whole heartedly grateful for.

thanks for your help. I will check the cable insulation, to discharge myself would I have to hold onto something metal (and grounded) or just anything grounded

Aww...maybe you need to hug a Tesla coil. Then perhaps you could turn lights on and off with your footsteps.
