LP CV Out Mod Bus turning off/ OS3.1 issue?

Post by dualaud » Fri Aug 12, 2011 9:58 pm

Hey there,

did anyone notice this:
The CV Mod bus output is only transmitting the modulation for 30 seconds after a key has been pressed.
After that it stops outputting the mod busses CV. I first thought it might be the number of LFO cycles, but after counting and stopping the time, its obviously always stopping after 30 seconds.

Is this working as intended and if so, could you please change this?
Could someone with the CV out mod verify please?

If I activate the Arpeggiator, Mod bus CV is being put out for as long as the Arp is on.

Using a LP SE1, upgraded to SE2, upgraded with the CV output panel and OS 3.1.
Unfortunately I can't tell whether this phenomenon surfaced after the upgrade to 3.1, or has been there before.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
dual

I will test my LP.

Does this always happen? Is the LFO clock set to internal or midi clock? Is LFO retrigger on?

Thanks for you reply.

These are the settings you requested:

LFO Clock:
CLK SRC: INTERNAL

LFO Retrigger:
ADVANCED PRESET/LFO KB TRIG: OFF
but it also happens when LFO KB TRIG:ON or AUTO

Of course I could only make a relatively small sample window.
I tried this about 10 times with different settings and it always stops after 30 seconds.

I have an LP stage 1 OS 3.1 build 371 (not the newest).

I have not been able to reproduce the mod bus turning off after 30s. I only tested with one waveform. What I did notice is, the mod bus CV out stops when I press stop on my sequencer when the LFO clock souce is set to midi. The LFO still runs internally and changing the clock on my sequencer still changes the LFO rate internally but no CV is present till the sequencer is playing.
Which I think is strange. Why would the CV out stop if the LFO is still present internally?

I got my cv out mod right around the time OS3.1 came out. I also do not know the behavior on an earlier OS.

I tried again with a bunch of differnet settings, no luck. What build OS3.1 are you running?

What are you sending the mod bus cv out to? Also, Is the key pressed and held or pressed and released?

I had OS 3.1 671/21 installed. (Display reads 3.1 671 after the factory reset; missing the /21)
I made a reset to factory defaults and Mod bus out worked for more than 30 secs.

Then I went investigating and traced down the problem to Fine tune, obviously (and surprisingly).
Resetting to factory defaults turned off Auto tune to Fine tune active.

Mod bus out working as expected with Auto tune off.
Once I set Auto tune to On the CV mod bus out stopped after 30 seconds again.

Can you verify this?
Please set Fine tune to another setting than Auto and check if mod bus out stops after 30 seconds.

Using the preset named "Moog Stage II" (Preset number 00) with the following things changed in the preset:
Amount of LFO: set to full CW.
Source: Pulse Wave
Mod Wheel: full open

To be more exact:
I set Auto tune to Auto.
The display shows: "Auto . . ."
Mod bus out: working as expected.

After 30 seconds the display reads:
" Auto 48.00" and the Mod bus out stops.
Upon pressing a key display reads:
"Auto . . ."
After 30 secs display reads:
"Auto 60.00" and the Mod bus out stops at the exact moment Auto tune reads "Auto 60.00".

Fine tune to "Off":
Mod bus out transmits CV longer than 30 seconds; no problem here.

Fine tune to "On":
Mod bus out transmits CV longer than 30 seconds, no problem here.

I'm measuring the Mod bus out with a DMM and/or an external ADSR triggered by the Mod bus out.
Thank you for your help!

Makes total sense.
I have my tune set to manual so I wouldn't have picked it up.
Auto tune kicks in after the LP sits idle for a short while (30s). The way it works is the output is muted and the calibration preset is played, then adjustments are made to bring the LP to tune. The calibration preset has an LFO amount of zero. Thus no CV out. Triggering a note event brings the LP out of autotune/calibration preset and back to the preset selected (there is a slight noticable delay when playing if the LP has been sitting).

Thanks for checking this!
Greatly appreciated!

I'm wondering how to use the Little Phatty live now, knowing of the Auto Tune procedure.

Letting it warm up for 30 minutes with Fine Tune set to Auto.
Shortly before playing, I set Fine Tune to Off and after each song, activate Fine Tune: Auto to tune the Phatty?

Can I activate Fine Tune:Auto manually, let it tune itself then turn it off again and the tuning Auto Tune has set up sticks?

How do you approach tuning on your Little Phatty?

Cheers,
dual

I use an external tuner. The location on the fine tune knob where the lp is in tune after warm up changes very little.

The other thing you can do is set up a silent patch or press the output: on/off button when you are using the mod bus cv out for extended periods. Keep the gate open and it will not go into autotune.

SN, good info on Auto tune. Never knew that.
