Updating Voyager OS

Post by barrie » Tue Feb 09, 2010 6:05 pm

Hi everyone,
I've had my voyager for about 10 months now and have to date been rather anxious about updating the OS. I note new releases made recently and I wonder if there's any guidance about doing this 'easily' for someone with little technical knowledge?
Thank you for any help that might be forthcoming.
Best wishes
Barrie

I'd like to know if you can update over USB rather than MIDI...

Thanks!

Voyager doesn't have USB, so i'd say no.

make sure you set up your sysex program to have settings somewhat along the lines of what Rudi has suggested here:

and make sure you transfer the banks in this order:
B A C D

also make sure you back up all your presets. the update does mess up your bank A presets for instance.

Thanks for your generous help. It's really appreciated. Does anyone know of a step by step guide to the process?

On Windows, using MIDI-OX and the same configuration in niksevens 'Rudi' screenshot, goto:

View -> SysEx

Then on your Voyager goto:

Master -> Receive Update -> Delete Operating System

Then transfer the banks as prompted by your Voyager using MIDI-OX SysEx:

SysEx -> Send Sysex File -> B -> (skip D) -> A -> C -> D

And if the Voyager asks for bank D after sending bank B leave "NO", then ENTER. Transfer bank A, C and D on the MASTER menu page 2.4.

Voyager editor programme - os update questions

Post by barrie » Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:59 am

Thanks Rudi etal, brilliant help. I'm sorry to ask other (possibly hopelessly niaive) questions but I'm anxious not to mess up. I decided to purchase the Voyager editor prog to back up my existing banks as I understand this is vital before attempting an update. I have a couple of queries that I hope someone can help clarify for me:
* I can't see the Performer mentioned in the Moog Banks drop down list and wonder which category I should use?
* What is the step by step process for copying my existing voyager banks to the Voyager editor?
* Is the process people kindly advised for updating my os SysEx librarian the same when using the Voyager prog?
* Is there a way of knowing that the midi link is working before beginning the update (I'm a bit concerned that once the os is deleted I could be left with nothing at all!)?
I'm really grateful for any help I receive.
Many thanks Barrie

The Editors 'Moog Banks' like 'Anniversary Edition' are just default backup banks, you don't need them unless there's a problem with your Voyagers banks and never had them saved.

How to backup banks with the Editor:

Hook up both MIDI IN/OUT on your Voyager
Open the Editor and click USER BANK A
Click Receive, then start
Repeat that for every Bank

That will copy over your entire preset collection from your Voyager and then you can save that as a single .mvr file with the Editor:

Bank -> Save User Bank Data As

Problems copying presets to editor program.

Post by barrie » Sun Feb 28, 2010 6:12 pm

I followed the instructions to copy over my presets from my Voyager to the editor program but there's no response after the program 'requests the bank'. My midi connection seems ok and I've tried altering the transfer rate without any luck. Is there something I should be doing that I'm not?
Does the 'send presets' option on the voyager do the same job?
Thank you for any help that's forthcoming.
Very best wishes

First, the Voyagers 'Send Preset(s)' is for sending SysEx data to SysEx software, not the Editor. The Editor uses .mvr files, not .syx.

Make sure your computers MIDI controller driver is up to date and both MIDI IN and OUT are connected.

Click any user bank on the Editor.
Click 'Receive' on the Editor and a data status window will popup.
Keep it at 40mS and click 'Start'.
The Editor's data status bar should now show patches transferring.

If you get no activity on the data status bar after those steps it could be a MIDI compatibility issue.

What MIDI controller are you using? I'm using a Moog recommended Midisport, 1X1.

What version Editor are you using? 3.4.4?

once again, thanks for the brilliant guidance and advice. Today I ordered a midisport 1x1 as recommended after which I'll follow the suggested procedure. Best wishes

Good deal.

I have an older driver for my Midisport that works better than the current version, so if you have any issues with the driver let me know and I'll let you try out mine.
