MF-105M MIDI MuRF teething trouble

Just got my MIDI MuRF yesterday, and am confused by the implementation. I've tried syncing it to Logic, and when I hit stop in the DAW, the MuRF carries on - OK, I understand that is one of the two modes of operation, but when I hit stop again, it seems to be triggering some kind of tap tempo, and I...

Re: VOX Time Machine/Other Delays W/ LP

Hey Nathan, I'm precisely about to get either a RE-20 or a El Capistan. Would you tell me everything you feel about these two? Did the Strymon fulfill what you were missing with the Boss? Is the $ difference worth? Ah and what about the reverb on these two units? Basically, you get what you pay for...

Re: VOX Time Machine/Other Delays W/ LP

EHX make the Deluxe Memory Boy with tap tempo, and it's a lot cheaper than the Memory Man models. I have a regular Memory Boy and it's a pretty nice sounding unit, but not great. I keep it as a 'character' effect, not a regular one. The Strymon El Capistan is great, but I find the dual function mode...

Re: Little Phatty KB AMOUNT "stepping"- What's wrong?

Also, don't forget that many of the highly respected classics also use digital parameter control of analogue circuits - nobody complains about the Prophet 5's resolution, for example. Digital scanning and control of parameters is what enables patch storage - without it, there'd be no memories. Any a...

Re: Songs w/ Little Phatty

I decided to educate myself, and cover Depeche Mode's Any Second Now from the album Speak And Spell (1981). All parts courtesy of the Moog Little Phatty - including the drums. I did run an external white noise source into the audio input for the downward swoop, but otherwise it's purely Phatty. Reve...

External Audio input headroom

The LP's user manual states that the External Audio input will accept a +4dBu signal. Is that a clipping level, or a suggested norm with greater headroom?

Re: Internal Noise Source on LP

I hope the "genius" comment is ironic, t's hardly a hidden feature. There are downfalls of this method: 1) it disallows other commonly used types of modulation and 2) you lose the 2nd osc for tonal duties. It does however make a very good 'pitched noise' source for percussion etc.

Re: monophonic Farfisa

I made a pretty decent organ patch on my Juno 60 that used the pulse wave, sub osc (so 1 oct down, if you're not familiar with the 60) and a resonant, tuned filter to add the right harmonic content - if you set the filter to maximum (or near max) resonance, and tune it so the peak is a fifth, or an ...

Re: Recreating this lead with SP?

A quick listen suggests a square wave with a fairly open filter, maybe a little resonance, glide, a touch of LFO on the pitch via the mod wheel, high sustain on the envelopes, slightly soft attack and release times, and maybe - maybe - a 2nd osc which is either slightly detuned from the 1st using th...

Re: New from Moog!!! 'The Ladder' 500 series Filter

I love the internet. It's where people go to complain about things they don't need, can't afford and/or have no interest in, all of which are made by other people for people other than themselves. And still - they come. Personally I think this is interesting - not so much in itself, but as an indica...

Re: What does it sound like?

I have a Rogue and LP, and they don't sound alike at all. The Rogue is rougher, less controlled. The LP is smoother, creamier, more defined. The Rogue can go places the LP cannot, or at least as easily. If I had to guess, I'd say the LP would sound most like either a Prodigy or Source, but that woul...

Re: Confusion. A few questions concerning the Model D.

Low or high note priority takes a minimum of circuitry - and therefore space, design time, and money. Last-note priority requires digital scanning, something that (from memory) I don't think I've seen on anything before the late 70s. Oberheim had digital keyboard scanning on some models by the late ...

Re: 14-bit zipper just as bad as 7-bit (Filter sweep)

I've had trouble with 14-bit MIDI using my M-audio MIDIsport 8x8, but not my MOTU MIDI Express 128. With the MOTU, the LP sends and receives dense MIDI just fine (running a 2007 iMac with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo and 2.5GB of RAM, and Logic Express 9 to the MOTU via USB). With the M-Audio, things glitch in...
