Sad news. I registered recently but it sure looked like a good forum.
Electro-music is still running. Good people there.

I´ve had a similar problem. After releasing a key in bypass mode the pitch started to rise very slowly to a point beyond the audio band! The power supply board is linked to the main board with a bunch of soldered wires that get a lot of stress when you move the boards around. Resoldering the joints ...

Re: Taurus I Maintenance Question

Anybody have any advice on what to use to clean the contacts? Hi, If the contacts of the Taurus are similar to the Minimoog´s, this is what it says on the model D service manual: << At the factory, we use and recommend Cramolin. If this is not available, TV tuner spray may be used. Do NOT under any...

This is my favourite Mini sound: the lead line in Kraftwerk´s The Model. There must be a lot of tape compression there, as it sounds hot. Other things like the volume pedal and what seems like tape flutter also contribute to the sound´s beautiful expression. Tough to replicate with Arturia´s Minimoo...

Oh yes, I´ve been busy reading through the Analogue heaven archives. There´s a long thread about the "warm Minimoog filter" with some clueless and irritating opinions. Museslave, I still think the Moog filter has its role in the sound. We should see the entire thing as a system where every...

This is what I´ve learned so far: The Moog Archives draw a good scenario on how it all started in the early days. In spite of the electronic music scene, I think there were no real standards to speak of in terms of instrument design. A couple of voltage controlled oscillator modules was needed? Fine...

Why a Moog sounds like a Moog

Well, I´ve finally found the essay through the Internet Archive. As Mr. Lightner already resumed it in this thread and there is not much more beyond, I took the liberty to repost it here for future reference and discussion. Only the video document is missing (broken link). So there it goes: Why a Mo...

I'm speaking about compensation caps which are used on older opamps. These are caps added to provide frequency dependent gain. Techy stuff that requires knowledge of opamp feedback, slew rate and bandwidth. 741s (and many other opamps) have them built in. Supply filtering IS important, but that was...

When I did mods on my synths, it was never to improve their sound quality, it was always about increasing their functionality. That was my original intention but I got this sentimental attitude towards the Rogue as this model was the first synthesiser I ever played. Functionality wise I´ve done the...

Respectfully offered, you're always welcome to experiment on your own synth, but the more you know about the circuits and components, the more you'll avoid frustration. It´s OK. Not being properly a novice to electronics, my knowledge is still limited in some crucial areas and when something goes w...

I've previously documented jitter in Moog 901 vcos. Additionally, Minimoogs have a small amount of AC that bleeds into the vcos and the vcos affect each other. This is all tone quality, not drift. (note also that later Minis added more PSU filtering and have very slightly less of this quality.) Thi...

There is this fascinating website about synthesizer restoration with lots of "before/after" pictures, from where I learned a lot, but this "after" picture in particular puzzled me. My soldering joints don´t look like this, even before the cleaning. It looks like just core flux wa...

:? I meant solder paste, not solder flux. Here we call "fluxite" to both the paste and the rosen core. If it´s the same case I stand corrected. Always had this idea of soldering paste to be mildly conductive and witnessed some arcing between good joints that weren´t cleaned, but hélas it w...
