Today Giorgio Moroder turns 73. Even if you don't recognize the name, chances are you are familiar with Moroder's prolific and widely influential works. From his 1970's disco hits with Donna Summer (Love To Love You Baby & I Feel Love) to his sonic contributions that defined an entire era of film in the 1980's (Scarface, Top Gun, Flashdance, The Never Ending Story), Giorgio's music has had a lasting impact.
One of the first artists to create and compose almost exclusively using electronic and sequenced means, Giorgio began a movement steeped in synthesizers and drum machines that has propelled electronic dance music through the decades. Most recently, Moroder collaborated with progressive French dance duo Daft Punk on their new album, Random Access Memories.
Happy 73rd Giorgio!
