Moog and Luaka Bop are thrilled to present the William Onyeabor remix series featuring covers and remixes by artists such as Dam-Funk, John Talabot, and James Holden, to name a few. The project began to take shape last spring when Luaka Bop caught wind of rumors that Onyeabor was a Moog retailer in Nigeria. Intrigued by this information, they reached out to their friends at Moog headquarters in Asheville, NC, who began conducting in depth research about Onyeabor, his music, and his gear. Information on Onyeabor has always been scarce, but it was clear from Moog’s findings that this “fantastic man” was a tragically under-cited electronic music pioneer, whose importance to the history of the genre should be universally recognized.

Since the summer, Moog and Luaka Bop have been in communication with electronic musicians, bands and DJ’s to develop a unique series of remixes and covers that would shed new light on Onyeabor’s idiosyncratic funkiness, as well as highlight his extraordinary use of Moog synthesizers, and in order to effectively pursue this project with the Moog stamp of awesomeness, they’ve collaborated with Luaka Bop and these artists to accurately construct custom models of the Little Phatty and Moog Minitaur inspired by William Onyeabor’s music and sonic palate.

As the project unfolds this fall, you can stay updated on this project by checking for interviews with each artist involved, and check into The Smooth & Good Club for weekly updates and exclusive content. To pre-order the coming album on iTunes, click here.
