Filming underway for new Moog Documentary
Filming underway for new Moog Documentary Filmmaker Hans Fjellestad and producer Ryan Page have embarked on a film documentary project that will trace the effect that Moog synthesizers have had on the cultural mainstream. Shooting began over the summer as the pair visited Asheville to document Bob Moog's current location of Asheville, NC. Their visit to the Moog Music factory observed actual minimoog Voyager and moogerfooger production, as well as provided ample opportunity to interview Bob and see a little bit of the local experience.
Shooting will take place in areas as diverse as Tokyo, New York and London. The soundtrack is shaping up to be a colossal affair with artists such as Stereolab, The Neptunes, Devo, Meat Beat Manifesto, Tortoise, DJ Spooky, The Cure, Money Mark, Luke Vibert, 33, The Album Leaf, Pete Devriese, Bostich, Charlie Clouser, Baiyon, Suzanne Ciani, Electric Skychurch and others.
Fjellestad and Page run the San Diego film company zu33 which has produced the documentary film Frontier Life, which takes a look at life in modern-day Tijuana. As a study of a true American maverick, the Moog documentary will also explore Dr. Moog's collaborations with musicians over the years, and how his designs have been affected by his ideas about creativity, interactivity and spirituality.
The film, which is receiving funding by San Diego based television station KPBS, is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2004. For more information, visit www.moogmovie.com.
