Hundreds of people gathered at the Fez Ball in Portland, OR this past weekend to celebrate the 68th birthday of musician and visionary Bernie Worrell.
To honor his years as a sonic experimenter Moog was proud to present the “Wizard of WOO” with a one of a kind custom purple Little Phatty.
Bernie Worrell is perhaps best known as a founding member of Parliament/Funkadelic, but over his long career he has played in numerous bands, including the Talking Heads. Worrell is a musical prodigy, learning to play the piano at age three and writing his first concerto at eight he went on to study at Julliard and the New England Conservatory of Music. No stranger to innovation, Bernie helped create Parliament’s signature sound using a Minimoog to create bass lines that forced the audience to dance.
After departing from Parliament/Funkadelic Bernie Worrell has continued to influence the musical world contributing to and being sampled by the likes of De La Soul, Snoop Dog, The Pretenders, Keith Richards, and Dr. Dre.
